JFK Stood Up To Khrushchev

Twenty minutes work this morning – JFK from a new sheet of stamps and his official protrait by Aaron Shikler – done after his death. Would love to set this loose and see it go viral. Any suggestions for the captioning – many other themes possile. I like the similar stance. I just bought the sheet of stamps and this art was on the side of the pane of Forever stamps then the Time magazine arrived today. The side by side images suggested themselves to me. OK – whaddya think?

Trump’s budget would cut a billion dollars from the Coast Guard

President Trump’s budget would cut $1.3 billion from the U.S. Coast Guard!
The USCG has a budget of about $9 billion.
President Trump wants to take that USCG money and give it to the Department of Homeland Security.  He wants to give that department a 6% increase and make their budget $43.8 billion.

President Trump talks about giving the “military” more money.  President Trump talks about his love of and support of law enforcement.

The United States Coast Guard (USCG) is a branch of the United States Armed Forces and one of the country’s seven uniformed services. The Coast Guard is a maritime, military, multi-mission service unique among the U.S. military branches for having a maritime law enforcement mission (with jurisdiction in both domestic and international waters) and a federal regulatory agency mission as part of its mission set. It operates under the U.S. Department of Homeland Security during peacetime, and can be transferred to the U.S. Department of the Navy by the U.S. President at any time, or by the U.S. Congress during times of war.

The United States Coast Guard is a military and a law enforcement.  We need to hold down military spending but I do not think we spend enough on the USCG.

I fear that cutting money from the USCG is going to affect their motto:  Semper Paratus (Always Ready).

My comments on a video about Donald Trump and Ivanka

A policial hate site on YouTube called “Trump Truth Watch” made a very sick YouTube video about President Trump and his daughter Ivanka.
You all know I am NOT a President Trump supporter but that video caused me to create and post this video.

I made this ranting and raving video a couple of days ago.
Today I went to YouTube and the About tab and I found this:

Congress Should Censure the President

I think that we are all in danger from President Trump.  He is very stupid or he suffers from some form of mental problems.
He has great power.  He does not appear to understand that not just his deeds but his words can cause major problems for the people of the United States.

I think Congress should censure President Trump.
It might be one way to get his attention and get him to start listening to people.

In the United States, governmental censure is done when a body’s members wish to publicly reprimand the President of the United States, a member of Congress, a judge or a cabinet member. It is a formal statement of disapproval.

President Trump fires acting Attorney General

We have real problems with “our” President.  I do not know how our nation is going to make it.  We have a  President that is emotional a 5 year old.

Today President Trump is going to announce who he wants for the Supreme Court.

But he just fired Sally Yates who was the acting Attorney General!

“Sally Quillian Yates (born August 20, 1960) is an American lawyer. She served as a United States Attorney and later United States Deputy Attorney General, having been appointed to both positions by President Barack Obama. She served as Acting United States Attorney General from January 20, 2017 until her dismissal by President Donald Trump on January 30, 2017, following her order to the Justice Department not to defend Trump’s immigration-related executive order in court…”

The United States Attorney General is the head of the United States Department of Justice. The AG is the chief law enforcement officer and chief lawyer of the United States.
We expect that person to follow the laws of the United States and protect all of us.  The AG is also takes an oath:

"I (name), do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and
defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies,
foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to
the same; that I take this obligation freely without any mental
reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully
discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So
help me God."

Yes the President of the United States can fire the AG.
But we expect the AG to follow the oath they have taken and do the right thing for all of us.  We expect the AG to stand up for the Constitution and stand up to the President of the United States.  Of course you would expect the President of the United States to ask the AG about a law or Executive Order before he issued one or signed one.  You would expect the President to listen to the AG.
But we have a stupid President now.  We have a man that has not read the Constitution of the United States and does not understand it.

Now the President of the United States has to get Congress to approve the new AG that he wants.  I feel sorry for Sen. Jeff Sessions.  He  is the man  that President Trump wants the Congress to confirm as AG.
Sen. Sessions is going to be asked, under oath, if the Executive Order from President Trump is legal.  He is going to be asked if he was AG would he enforce it.
It is not only Sen. Sessions that is going to be in the hot seat but also the person that President Trump wants to put on the United States Supreme Court.  We do not know yet who he will be but I feel sorry for him.  I expect he will say that he can not discuss a pending case that might come before the high court.  But he is still going to get asked about it.

Today the Senate Judicial Committee  plans to vote on Sen. Sessions and then it would go to the full senate for a vote of confirmation.  I think the Judicial Committee should NOT vote today.  I think they should call Sen. Sessions back and ask him some questions.
If I was Sen. Sessions I would tell President Trump that I did not want the job of AG now.  Just think about how it would feel to be approved and walk into the office of the AG now.

President Trump is not off to a good start.
The Democrats do not have the votes.  It up to the Republicans in Congress and I do not see them doing anything to help.
The Republicans should send him a message.  A strong message.

Brink of a Constitutional Crisis

The Huffington Post and other sites are reporting that it took President Trump only 8 days to bring the United States to the brink of a Constitutional Crisis.
Thank God our legal system, the courts, are working right now.

“It took little more than a week in office for President Donald Trump to thrust the nation to the brink of a constitutional crisis.

Late Friday, Trump issued an executive order forbidding millions of refugees, hundreds of thousands of visitors and 500,000 legal immigrants from seven majority-Muslim countries from entering the United States. Over the following 48 hours, massive protests erupted in cities and airports nationwide, courts temporarily blocked major parts of the order, the administration defied the courts and Democrats called for an investigation into the administration’s defiance. As the weekend drew to a close, an anonymous White House official proclaimed the whole episode a “massive success story.”

The federal courts thought otherwise. On Saturday night, a judge in Brooklyn ordered the Trump administration to stop deporting refugees and visitors immigration authorities had previously cleared to enter the country. Two judges in Massachusetts ordered that travelers who were legally authorized to be in the United States shouldn’t be detained at or deported from Logan International Airport for a period of seven days. A judge in Seattle halted the deportation of two travelers. And a judge in Virginia issued an order requiring the administration to allow lawyers access to lawful permanent residents — also known as green card holders — whom Customs and Border Protection agents had detained at Dulles International Airport on Trump’s instructions…”

Now the question is will the Executive Branch follow the law?  With Donald Trump as President of the United States you do not know what he is going to do.
President Donald Trump lives in a strange world of “alt-facts.”  Those are lies that President Trump seems to think are real.  I fear that the American people have elected a man with mental problems.  His mental problems might not be a problem for a business person or for you or I.  But for the President of the United States and the Commander-In-Chief having mental problems is a problem.
A number of reports have appeared online saying that experts thing he has “Narcissistic Personality Disorder.”

“Narcissistic personality disorder is a mental disorder in which people have an inflated sense of their own importance, a deep need for admiration and a lack of empathy for others. But behind this mask of ultraconfidence lies a fragile self-esteem that’s vulnerable to the slightest criticism.

A narcissistic personality disorder causes problems in many areas of life, such as relationships, work, school or financial affairs. You may be generally unhappy and disappointed when you’re not given the special favors or admiration you believe you deserve. Others may not enjoy being around you, and you may find your relationships unfulfilling.

Narcissistic personality disorder treatment is centered around talk therapy (psychotherapy)…”

It is going to be a long long four years for the American people and the world.
