An Uber driver was wounded in a shooting Tuesday morning after a passerby fired as many as 15 shots into the car after seeing the driver and passenger “waving a gun around,” police say.
Dallas police said they were called to a shooting in the 100 block of South Brookside Drive at 12:47 a.m. and found the Uber driver’s vehicle riddled with 10 to 15 bullet holes in the front passenger door and window.
Investigators said a passenger in the vehicle had a handgun in a case that the driver asked to see.
The shooter — later identified as 33-year-old John Beaty — happened upon the car, spotted the weapon and then fired at the vehicle, striking the driver in the chest.
Beaty, who served in the Army from 2007 to 2010, told police he thought he’d witnessed someone committing a crime, according to a report by The Dallas Morning News.
When officers arrived, police said Beaty was administering first aid to the victim — a 24-year-old man. Beaty’s weapon was found disassembled on the hood of a nearby vehicle.
Authorities said the victim was transported to Baylor University Medical Center with injuries that were not life threatening. His condition is not known.
Police said they took Beaty — who may be suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder — into custody. He was transported to the Dallas County Jail and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

It is now January 1st of 2017. The Fort Worth Fire Department and others have asked the people of Fort Worth not to fire guns into the air.
But has sounded like a war zone here tonight. It is 7 minutes after midnight and guns are still be fired.
I hope none of those rounds hit anyone.
Wow 9 shots very fast at 0009. Sounds like it came from Las Vegas Trail.
Just to keep this honest let me say I have never been in a war zone except when I was married!
Update 02/02/2017: ‘Stray’ bullet hits Texas legislator in the head at New Year’s celebration.
The above story was not in this area. But it was in Texas.
There is an interesting article on MSN. It is The 5 best-selling handguns in America all have 1 thing in common.
If you are a red blooded American male you will check out the report right?
But we are looking for a gun that is “compact, lightweight, and accurate.” Yes so we can conceal it. I wonder if safety should be one of the things we are looking for?
In the article the author says that the Rugar LCP is number one! I have never owned a Rugar and never heard of the LCP.
Number two is a tie and it is the Glock G19 and the Smith & Wesson M&P Shield. I have owned a lot of S&W handguns. I am one of those people that said they would never carry a Glock when they first came out. It turned out that we were wrong. The Glock is a great weapon but I just can not admit that I was that wrong so have never owned one.
I carried S&W handguns daily for over 30 years. I did carry a Taurus for a few years.
I will let you read the article if you are interested.
One handgun I carried for years was the S&W 38-44 Outdoorsman. It was a 38 but on a 44 frame. A friend begged me for a long time to sell it to him and I did. I wish I had never sold it. I loved that handgun.
I do not own any guns at this time. I have not owned a gun since 2000.
