I have been blogging since 1982. Over the years I have report on and discuss subjects that interest me at the time.

Windows Secret Reset Option

I found an interesting story on BetaNews.Com.  The story is about a Windows 10 Creators update that gives Windows 10 a new System Reset option.
If I had know about it a couple of days ago I could  have tried it and it might have saved me a LOT of work.

Over time, Windows can become sluggish, and beset with problems. A good system clean might be enough to keep you going a while longer, but not always. Worse, if you get hit with malware — ransomware in particular — or encounter major hardware problems, your only option might be to reinstall Windows.

Windows 10 offers users two choices here — go into Settings > Update & recovery > Recovery. Click the Get started button under Reset this PC and you’ll have the option to keep your files (removes apps and settings only) or remove everything (a total fresh start). However, in the Creators Update there’s going to be a new option.

Windows 10 on both computers

A friend/fan of Howard’s Notebook since me enough money to buy a Windows 10 Professional OEM Key.  I got it from Kinguin again. The key worked.
I now have Windows 10 Professional running on my newest main computer.  So I have Windows 10 on both computers. Both installs are new.  So both computers are running great.
I think this is the first time that I had Window Pro on a computer.  I have not checked out the extras that it gives me yet.

It was great for a few hours

I formatted the hard drive on my main computer, the one in my bedroom, and I put a clean fresh Windows 10 on it.
The computer  booted so fast and I could go to web sites so fast … It was working great.  I was looking forward to using Windows 10 and started to install programs that I had paid for …
Then I found out that Microsoft did not accept my Windows code.  They said I needed to buy Windows 10. They sent me to a site where I could get a key for $199.00 if I remember correct.

Wow Windows worked great for a few hours.

So I formatted and I just installed  UbuntuStudio.
Later I will install Zorin 11 so that I can boot into UbuntuStudio or Zorin 11.
Well I know what I will be doing all day today.

Formatted and started over again with Windows 10

Windows 10 has been working so slow for me …  It has just been a pain in the ass.  So I decided to just format and start all over again.  No I did not have it save my files and re-install .. I just trashed it all.

So now I am back …  Windows is so much faster.  So far I have Firefox installed and all my bookmarks and start pages setup.  I installed LastPass and I got the NVidia GTX 750 driver installed.  I got the Audiobox driver installed.
But a lot of software is not installed;  NCH, Logitech utility for G502 and G710+, Debute Video Capture Software, Movavi Video Suite 16 and lots more software not installed.
But there is a lot of  trash off my hard drive.  One thing that took a problem for me was when I was doing Amazon reviews.  I would install something and a driver for it and review the item and a bunch of that trash was on my hard drive and in Windows someplace.

Firebox is working so fast right now.
I hope I can keep Windows from slowing down.. but I do not think you can… It is the way Windows works.

Cyber Monday

I do not think I have ever gone out or even online ordered anything on Black Friday or Cyber Monday.
I did today … I ordered an Amazon Echodot.  I have heard a lot of people talking about the Amazon Echo and now the Dot.  So I ordered one and it will be here in a few days.

The normal price is $49.99 for the Echo Dot and it was on sale for $39.99 today.
The normal price for the Echo is $179.00 but today you could get it for $139.99 and that is a good deal.

I am going over to YouTube and going to check out some videos of people that have the Echo and what they do with it.

My first 4K Video

I have had the FZ300 camera for almost one month.  Today was the first time I shot a 4K video.  Here is that video.  It is a 6 minute video and the file size was 4 GB.  It took almost two hours to upload.

I called Spectrum, Charter, and cancelled the Spectrum TV.  Russ or ordered the TV as part of a special and with it you got 100 down.  We had 60 down.  I will be back paying $59.99 just for Internet now and I just did a speed test and it looks like they cut our speed back down to 60.
In the video you will hear me wonder about the container in the parking lot.  It is not there for AT&T fiber.  The apartment complex is going to have some sort of building taking place.

I am just waiting for AT&T to offer fiber Internet.  Just for the 1 GB up and down the price will be $90.00 a month.

Last day to do Amazon Reviews

I have two or three reviews I want to do today for Amazon and then I am not going to do anymore reviews for them.  I had fun doing the 426 reviews.  But it was a lot of work and a lot of time.
It took a lot of time.  I want to use my time now to do different things.
After I do the reviews today I am going to turn off my Amazon Review Profile.  I attempted to edit it but it looks like Amazon is not allowing that … So I will just turn it off so that the public can not see it.
My 426 reviews will still be on Amazon for people to see.

I am glad, I guess, that Amazon decided to have a fit and change rules.

I guess today everyone is looking for cyber Monday sales.  I looked at a few.  I see a couple of items I would like to have … But I just do not have the money to spend.

I am going to call today and cancel Charter TV service.  Russ upgraded a month or so ago to TV service so that our Internet speed would go from 60 Mbps to 100 Mbps.  If they want to cut my speed down to 60 Mbps I am OK with it.  I just am not interested in TV and do not want to pay that extra amount for it.
AT&T  has put in high speed fiber .. Well at least it is out on the street.  They have not contacted anyone in the apartments about the 1 Gbps up and down service yet.  I will go with AT&T if they contact me.  Of course that speed would cost me about $90.00 a month.

Here is my most recent YouTube video:

I am back baby – got the new router

I ordered the new router and was a bit worried that I might get hit with some bill before the next two days.. But right after I ordered the router (Google) YouTube put my $130.00 commission into my bank.

I ordered the router for one day delivery.  So I ordered about 9 AM today and I got it about 5 PM today. Pretty neat.

The TP-Link AC1750 (Archer C7) router was very easy to setup.  No problems.  I plugged in my two computer wired.  I have two WiFi feeds.  One is on 2.4 Ghz and the other on 5 Ghz.
I now got the two Roku TVs working OK.

I am  happy …  But I still got a lot of stuff I need to do around here.
Hilary and Russ are not coming over for Thanksgiving.  Russ has to work and Hilary is going to make a  turkey over there.  Dar will be making one here.
Hilary’s birthday is on the 23rd.  I do not think we are going to see her.

I just setup WiFi for my cell phone.  I first connected at 2.4 Ghz and then I went back and set it up to use 5 GHz. Not sure that 5 GHz is better but I suspect less connections.
